Simple Stress Busters

Stress is part of every day modern life and well accepted amongst every generation as something we just have to deal with! When well-managed, the adrenaline rush of stress can help us stay motivated and perform better. However, when stress starts to prevent you from achieving relaxation and is counter productive, you need to manage it, rather than let it manage you. Successful coping strategies can help protect your mental wellbeing against the negative impacts of stress while helping to keep you focused and productive at work.

With mental health awareness month just behind us, we are going to look at some ways that can manage your stress levels:

Exercise

A gruelling exercise session each day to relieve stress is not necessary! As long as you increase your heart rate, exercise can help manage your stress levels more effectively. A brisk walk is enough to do the trick. Regular exercise triggers the release of endorphins which help promote the feelings of positivity, happiness and productivity. Physically active individuals have a sense of accomplishment and tend to interact more with people. After doing exercises, mild to moderate symptoms of stress can be quickly alleviated! Even better, find a friend to join you to make this an even better stress buster.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is an effective coping strategy that can tackle both anxiety and stress. Regular practice of mindfulness methods can improve your mental and physical health. There are different ways to achieve mindfulness, like guided meditation or deep breathing. It is recommended to focus on one thing at a time to avoid overwhelming your mind with too many problems. You should also address problems slowly and deliberately to avoid being in a hurry. By spending more time in nature, taking the time to breathe and slow your thinking down, you can be more mindful about how you are feeling. Being mindful about your body and mind and recognising when you need to take some time for yourself is great for releasing tension and stress.

Talk To Others

Social isolation can negatively affect your happiness and wellbeing. Often, you will feel much better after talking to someone about your worries and concerns. You may want to start talking to your family members and close friends if you’re feeling anxious or stressed. It is also a great way to gain new perspectives on situations and allows others to help you see your situations more positively. Confiding in others is a great tool for helping us manage stress levels before they become too much. Take a walk and share your burden and we are sure you will feel much better for it after!

Get Enough Rest

Sleep is so important! We just need to take simple steps to make sure we get enough of it. Doing this makes it easier to manage stress and preserve your mental health. Try putting your phone down at least 1 hour before bed, practicing mindfulness or meditation before you sleep and removing any distractions from your room to prepare yourself for sleep. Your stress levels will thank you for it!
