Shabana Korkmaz

Meet Shabana, the head of our Revenues & Benefits division. Shabana comes with a wealth of experience within the Industry and is truly an expert in what she does!

Shabana Revenues & Benefits How long have been working in Revenues & Benefits?

I have been recruiting into the Revenues & Benefits industry for 17 years.

I worked as a Council Tax Officer for the Corporation of London in 1999, so began my recruitment career with first-hand knowledge of the sector and a unique insight into the market.

I started my career as trainee and worked my way up to Associate Director and recently joined Tempest to head up the new Revenues & Benefits team. Tempest was a natural choice for me as it’s already a successful public sector agency, where Revenues & Benefits would be able to operate effectively and complement the existing sectors that Tempest operates in.

Tell us about your current role?

My main focus at the moment is to launch Revenues & Benefits as a new sector division at Tempest, and to hire an experienced team to service the needs of candidates and clients in this niche, specialised market.

Who do you mainly deal with? What positions do you recruit for and where?

Fortunately, Tempest are an approved, first-tier supplier to all Local Authorities within the UK. As such the Revenues & Benefits division supplies staff across the UK, recruiting positions from Customer Services to Heads of Service on a temporary/contract and permanent basis.

What do you enjoy most about recruiting in this sector?

Over the years, I’ve developed a good understanding of the sector, and as a result, excellent relationships with my candidates and clients; so, it would have to be the people! They have a real passion for what they do.

What advice would you have for someone seeking a temporary position with Revenues & Benefits?

From my experience, I’ve realised that Revenues & Benefits contractors do this because it is a lifestyle choice. Anyone who is looking to enter the market as a contractor needs to be enthusiastic about taking on new challenges and be adaptable to change, as every local authority runs the service in their own way.

What do you think makes Tempest stand out from its competitors?

Tempest is a privately-owned company that specialises in the sectors it has chosen to work in. The focus is very much on becoming experts in our industries of choice, along with developing and maintaining long-term working relationships with our clients and candidates. Tempest is still very much a traditional recruitment company that prides itself on the value of a high-quality service.

Tells us something that most people wouldn’t know about you?

I spent a year working as a holiday rep in the Mediterranean which prepared me with the skills I needed for a life in Recruitment.
